Student Perspective of Online Learning

Everything changed, when the Corona virus came to attack all countries. In just a short period of time, changing people's habits, causing many changes that were never thought of before. Everyone is forced to keep their distance when interacting, not shake hands when meeting, always wear a mask, avoid crowds, and also work and school from home.

The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia issued Circular Letter Number 4 of 2020 concerning Implementation of Education Policies in an Emergency for the Spread of Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19), which enforces school learning activities carried out from home or known as online learning. Coming to school every Monday to Friday is something that has become an obligation for students, chatting with friends, enjoying food in the canteen, exercising and playing are things that stick when thinking about the word school, but all that now cannot be done as usual.

Related to this phenomenon, I conducted interview with elementary school student regarding his opinion about online learning that had been carried out for almost 2 semesters. Based on the opinion given, the student was happy at first because he thought this would only going on for 3 months as previously said by the government, because whether like it or not, home is indeed the most comfortable place to study. Student feels he has a lot of time to play after doing the assignment given by the teacher. The fact is that learning still has to be done at home after 3 months, because of the high spread of the corona virus, this causes students to feel bored, and lazy to do the assignments, because he feels not really understand a lesson given due to the lack of explanation given by the teacher.

Say "MashaAllah Tabarakallah"

However, because the way online learning is carried out is very sudden, given the many deficiencies in both the facilities and abilities that teachers and students have, at first it feels not smooth. This is due to a lack of dissemination of information and understanding of technology which causes teachers to assign too many assignments because of the learning objectives that must be achieved while on the other hand students get bored easily and feel that the time to study at home is too long. The student also added that he felt sad because of the online learning that had been going on for more than 3 months and missing going to school wearing uniforms and meeting his teachers and friends.

As time goes by in terms of the implementation of online learning that has been going on for more than 5 months, it has made a lot of progress and is starting to be adapted well by teachers and students. The student said that now he feels more comfortable studying at home, because the assignments are not too many, the learning media is quite interesting, and the ability of teachers and parents of students to use technology has also improved, making online learning easier.
